Elora Quarry - Elora, Ontario
Article by Maya GavricThe main attraction of this conservation area is a beautiful two acre (0.8 hectare) abandoned limestone quarry filled with water and converted to swimming area. The quarry is encircled by sheer cliffs up to 12 meters (40 feet) high and has small sandy beach along the water's edge. It was popular swimming area for a long time, but did not become a conservation area until 1976. The water is deep and refreshing and there are no lifeguards on duty.
This 79 acre tree-covered park has places to picnic and enjoying nature. Great for a day of swimming and picnicking during hot summer days. It is open for day use only and dogs and alcohol are not allowed at this park.
Elora Quarry Conservation Area is one of the main attraction in Elora. It is also only five minutes away from the Elora Gorge Conservation Area and great hiking on the Elora Cataract Trail, so make it part of your hike or enjoy a day of picnicking and swimming with family and friends.
Note: Beach area is small and usually very crowded on weekends. There are changing rooms and washrooms, but no food or any other amenities, so bring your own food if you want to enjoy your day here. If you want to go for a swim, it is good idea to bring a floating ring or something else to float on so you can swim throughout the entire quarry.
Open: This conservation area is open the first Saturday in June until Labour Day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays.
